Our passionate members are excited to bring the fascinating world of fungi to all those in Ottawa willing to learn.
From June through October, you can join our guides as we explore Ottawa’s forests for our local mushrooms. We have events for those from aged 5 to 105.
From November through May, you can catch us providing online webinars and interactive in-person social events.
A little more about us…
As a result of varied interests in fungi, the Ottawa Mushroom Society was established in spring 2022, and held it’s inaugural public foray in May 2022.
Over the last two years, we have given numerous seminars, a workshop, 16 public forays, two forays at MacSkimming with the Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club, hosted three school field trip, held an amazing woodland picnic for our club’s social, bi-weekly pub socials and an online winter webinar series!
As we continue to grow, we look to deepen our ties with the community through our participating in workshops, hosting forays, and visiting schools, libraries and senior residences to share our knowledge with those who have an interest in this fantastic world of fungi.
The OMS is entirely volunteer run and free to join for anyone who has interest in learning, teaching and sharing aspects about fungi. We are open to all people with a diverse interest in fungi from lichen to slime mold to mushrooms, and from foraging to cultivation to the science of mycology (and lichenology).

Guided Walks
Each month we take a lucky group into the woods to explore and learn more about the mushroom kingdom.
Seminars
We occasionally give presentations at libraries or in other community organizations. Some are private, others are public.
